Getting my ears lowered

Why I can't work for my keep
So the week before I got to stay in this house they were explaining to me that Margret will do the dishes and the wash. I tried to insist that I could do both but they said no. So I offered to mow the lawn till they got back and they said no, that Godfried would be taking care of that, he was mowing the lawn at the time so when I sat down on the front porch with Harley (14yr) I was like "You should be mowing the grass not him" and he said "well back at home I do but this is the way I see it here. We are providing a job for these people that are earning next to nothing to work so I not only would I be taking their jobs I would also take the chance to talk to someone abot why I am here if I did these normal choirs that you and I would do" So labor is real cheep here. To get a car wash here is only about 5 bucks and they do a better and more thorough job than your local place. I shaved my head the other day at an (expensive to Ugandans) Barber shop where he had the perfect fade and would stick cotton balls in my ears so I wouldn't get stray hairs in them, he would then wipe my head down with a warm wet wash cloth to get all the hair off then shave my neck with a razor then put after shave lotion on. I mean it was the best hair cut I have ever gotten and they were doing it to every one not just me. And it only cost $1.17. Of coarse no one tips here as well. In the states they don't go for if the hair looks good, they are looking at their waiting bench and quickly cutting the persons hair just to get to the next customer and then paying $10 and expecting a 2 dollar tip and that would be a cheep hair cut. So the principle for me was that back in the states when I would get my head shaved I would go buy clippers and cut my hair my self because it was cheaper. But the way I see it here is that not only do I get to support Sandy (my barber) with a job every two weeks but I also get a chance to talk to him about why I am here. Pray for Sandy who wants to go to Texas to cut Muzungu hair and would only charge $ 5 dollars. After telling him how much I would pay for a hair cut back home.
All is well from the Barber shop where Sandy likes to remind me that USA got demolished in World Cup Soccer.
